Next Chamber Meeting – 6/9/15 – Hosted by Duck Soup!

Duck-SoupOur next Chamber meeting, on 6/9/15 at 5:30PM will be hosted by Duck Soup.

Duck Soup has been a fixture in Mill Village, Sudbury, MA since 1971 — founded by Richard Ressler and later run by Pierre Weiss. Their vision, their style, their wares and their flair changed little over time — except to improve with age.

The store is a testament to years of experience and wonderfully great taste. Unfortunately Richard passed away, and Pierre has made noises about retiring. So long-time friend of the “ducks” and Duck Soup, Louise Mawhinney, has taken the helm to ensure that the legacy of Duck Soup continues.

We like to think of Duck Soup as a lifestyle choice, a community of friends where you are always welcome to stop in and sample the coffee and other goodies on the counter. We have food, appliances, utensils, and a lot of fun. The original mission of the store was “to stay loose, be flexible, fly low and listen to our customers.” Richard and Pierre built a unique retail environment where everything is customer-driven. Our employees are “Ducksoupians” who ensure that product or service information is always at hand for any customer. We admit it: we are Unique. Fun. A bit wacky. Really Duck Soup.

The Sudbury Community Food Pantry Needs Volunteer Truck Drivers!

For the last 25 years the The Sudbury Community Food Pantry has helped the needy residents of our community to put food on the table to feed themselves and their families.

In 2014 The Sudbury Community Food Pantry provided 18,681 shopping bags of food to our clients from 71 cities and towns.  Sudbury residents are allowed to come twice a month and non Sudbury once a month.  We purchase 58% of the food we distribute from the Greater Boston Food Bank. By taking advantage of their buying power we were able to distribute in 2014 $177,727 more worth of food than we could have otherwise.

To pick up from the GBFB twice monthly we rent a 26 Ft box truck to go into Boston. We are desperately looking for volunteer drivers for the rental truck. I would like to get at least 4 so the person would only have to drive once every other month.

The truck is picked up in Framingham about 9:30 then down the Mass turnpike onto the SE expressway getting of the first exit heading south, Mass Ave. The GBFB is only three blocks from exit. Our load time is 10:40. No heavy lifting as GBFB personal fork load the truck. The Tuck usually arrives back at the pantry between 11:30-11:45. At the pantry our volunteers will help unload the truck.  The unload time is about 1 hour.

Pleas consider volunteering to help us help our hungry friends and neighbors! I look forward to hearing from you.
