“Dickens’ Christmas Carol, 1879,” Returns for Two Shows! – 12/16 & 12/17

“Dickens’ Christmas Carol, 1879,” Returns for Two Shows!

December 16, 2011 – December 17, 2011

A Very Victorian Christmas Carol returns to the Wayside Inn for two shows, brought to life by actor and Framingham native Al LePage—all in the enchanted Martha Mary Chapel!

Friday, December 16th at 8pm: “Done Like Dickens”
Dickens’ very own Historic Script and Acting-style come to life!

Saturday, December 17th at 2pm: “A Christmas Carol Times Two”
LIVE English Christmas Carol Organ Music combined with a shorter version of Dickens historic Carol script!

Friday’s performance is best enjoyed by adults and mature children age 10 upwards, and Saturdays performance will best serve families with children age 7 and up, and older adults, too!

LePage will portray “Englishman Thomas Hutchinson, Traveling Thespian” in a dramatic reading of the version which Charles Dickens himself originally edited and performed. And, as Dickens himself did it, will re-create all 26 characters by miraculously transforming himself through his use of voice, facial expressions, and gestures. LePage dramatically sets the stage by interacting with the audience too, just before the performance begins, in the character and clothing of the Victorian era—adding some new twists and surprises to the sold-out performances he’s had for the last 3 years!

$10 admission per person includes holiday cookies served during intermission, and all proceeds benefit the emergency food pantry “A Place to Turn” and the non-profit mission of the Wayside Inn Historic Site.

Seating is general admission and limited to only 140 tickets for each performance. Phone (978) 443-1776 for reservations beginning November 1st. No refunds. All sales final.

May 10 Meeting Recap

This month’s Chamber meeting touched on a number of topics of interest to Sudbury businesses and residents.  The meeting was held Tuesday evening at the Wayside Inn.

Our keynote speaker was John Fossett, Senior Vice President at Middlesex Savings Bank, who spoke about the recent turmoil John Fossett Middlesex Savings Bank Sudbury MA Chamber of Commerceand change in the banking industry.  After providing some perspective by comparing the recent crisis to others over the past 40 years, John gave us some “insider” advice on how small businesses can best work with their banks.

Louis Stephan, the Chamber president, also gave an update on the Rt. 20 sewer project.  The $1 million design phase funding Louis Stephan speaks at Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Meetingwas preliminarily approved at the Town Meeting last week, but must now be approved in a special election on June 7.  The proposed project has significant implications for the Sudbury business community and for the long-term viability of our downtown business district.

Louis also provided an update on The Event Under the Tent, the upcoming fundraiser to support Sudbury’s Fourth of July Parade.  The Event takes place this Saturday, May 14, from 7:00 PM to midnight at the Wayside Inn.  Capacity is limited, so we strongly encourage people to buy their tickets in advance.  For more information, visit the Event webpage at http://www.sudbury.org/event.

May 2 Town Meeting to Vote on Rt. 20 Sewer Project

From the Sudbury town website:

The Route 20 Sewer Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has prepared a comprehensive list of questions and answers to assist residents in informing themselves on Article 20 at the Annual Town Meeting, which requests an appropriation of approximately $1 million for the design and permitting of the Route 20 sewer project. If Article 20 passes at Town Meeting, a ballot vote will be needed for the appropriation. The ballot vote (election) is tentatively scheduled for June 2011.

The Route 20 sewer project is a long term project designed to sustain Sudbury both environmentally and economically. It aims to protect Sudbury’s drinking water in the Route 20 aquifer area, as well as assist businesses with their wastewater disposal so that they can stay and grow in Sudbury. Without alternative wastewater disposal, there is a risk of groundwater contamination and loss of business.

SEWERS IN SUDBURY… GET THE FACTS!

RT. 20 Sewer Advisory Committee to give presentation to Chamber Meeting on Tuesday April 12, 2011 @ 5:30 pm at the Wayside Inn.

From the Advisory Committee’s letter…

Dear Sudbury Business Leader,

Sudbury faces a significant challenge to continue providing and preserving drinking water from underground aquifers to all residents, and sustaining the viability of our commercial property.  Sudbury relies almost entirely on individual on-site septic systems for the disposal and treatment of wastewater (both residential and commercial).  This is generally not an issue in residential areas, but as you may know, it has become a major problem in the areas of commercial development, particularly along an approximately 2 mile stretch of Boston Post Road.  The Town’s majority of business establishments, with almost 1 million square feet of commercial real estate, are located along this stretch of Boston Post Road, as are the Town’s water supply wells. The continued reliance on septic systems for wastewater disposal is severely limiting the growth of existing businesses, curtailing the types of businesses that are able to locate in Sudbury, eliminating the possibility of introducing mixed-use development along the corridor, and threatening the…
